This is the fifth and final Percy Jackson adventure and you know all your questioned will be answered. Percy is on the cusp of adulthood, but is he really the kid from the great prophecy? Who will Percy end up with? Will Luke’s story finally be revealed? But before we get ahead of ourselves, Percy and Beckendorf must stop the ship, Princess Andromeda from reaching her destination. As Blackjack approaches the headquarters of the titan lord, snake women, hounds, giants, and humanoid demons all patrol the upperdecks, but like a dark comet zipping toward its destination, they managed to get past them without incident.

Soon after dropping the pair off on the lowest deck, Blackjack retreats, and Beckendorf, pulls an image of his beloved and begins to reminisce about the daughter of Aphrodite. With a glint of wariness in his eyes, Percy reassures him that they will succeed in their mission. So Beckendorf takes the lead, and with enemy voices arguing around them, they manage to reach the ship’s engine room. Guarded by only one dog-headed half human, only one slice is needed for him to explode into dust. After setting several viles of Greek fire, a horde of monsters head toward our heroes.

All this, and it’s only just started. What a story! What a series! The Last Olympian continues with its cutting edge, hip style of presenting Greek Mythology in a way that flows seamlessly into the first-person dialogue, and not force fed to the reader. You learn without learning, what a beautiful concept. The action is packed, and there are more than a few surprises - I won’t mention them here. But I will say all the loose ends from The Titan’s Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 3) and The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 4) are sewn up in what must be one of the greatest series in literary history. Great job, Rick Riordan. A bit odd, but you sure can write. I would also like to take a moment and thank him for all he has given to help communities and children…it is rare for someone of his status to be so involved.

The answers to the questions stated earlier: During Percy’s heroic escape from the Princess Andromeda, Poseidon tells him he must return to Camp Half-Blood and fulfill his destiny. Percy and Annabeth bring the prophecy to the war council where Percy discovers that no matter which side he chooses, he will die. This key event changes the tone of the entire book and sets up on terrific final battle. Percy dreams of Rachel, and tells Annabeth which causes Percy and Annabeth to become angered at each other. Trying to clear his mind of Annabeth, Percy wanders to the edge of the forest where he finds Nico, Juniper, and Leneus, discussing Grover’s health. Leneus doesn’t want to help Grover, but is convinced by Percy. Nico and Percy then decide to find Luke’s mother and hence, discover Luke’s past.

Rick Riordan deserves at least Elysium.,

I had it on reserve at the bookstore. And then I got the e-mail that it was there, waiting for me to come and get it and read it. I rushed over and grabbed my copy of THE LAST OLYMPIAN, the final book in the PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS series, and that night I went home and devoured the thing. I went into it thinking, “Okay, I know this is the last one, and Rick Riordan has been amazing with his plot twists and characters, how can this one really live up to everything and just blast it all out of the water? Maybe he’ll have lost his touch after five books.” And then, as I was reading, I was not disappointed. Riordan delivered. And he delivered good. THE LAST OLYMPIAN was a blasting ride into one of the most inventive uses of Greek mythology ever.

The story picks up right where THE BATTLE FOR THE LABYRINTH stopped, and I must say, you’ve got to read the first four books before you come to this. I would even say you need to read the short story about Percy Jackson and Hades in THE DEMIGOD FILES to really get the full picture of everything. All that said, this, the fifth book jumps right in and gets going. The world is at the edge of its civilization. Kronos has mobilized his plans and his forces, and now everything is going to come down to a battle to the finish to see whether the Great Prophecy about Percy Jackson is fulfilled: Will he save Mount Olympus? Or will he end up helping it be destroyed? Either way, Percy Jackson is dead.

This had to be the most action-packed book in the series. The whole thing was an amazingly huge battle with all different kinds of monsters, demigods, titans, and gods fighting it out over Olympus. Riordan is at his top form here — he always excels at action scenes, and things run along so smoothly here, it’s hard to keep up sometimes. I kept flipping pages so fast I didn’t even check the page count (as I usually do). The plot twists kept coming, and I kept finding myself gasping out loud at each new turn. And, my ultimate test for any book: I got goosebumps twice during THE LAST OLYMPIAN.

And Riordan doesn’t leave off on characterization. Percy Jackson still has ways to grow — and the themes that Riordan pulls out are amazing. All of his characters grow in different ways this book, and you finally find out the mysteries surrounding so many of them: Luke, Percy, Annabeth, Thalia, Nico, and even Rachel Elizabeth Dare.

The one thing I am glad to say is that even though these books have ended, at the very end of the book, in the Acknowledgments, Riordan says, “As the first Camp Half-Blood series draws to a close…” which makes me believe that there will be more to come from Riordan based on this world he’s created and revamped.

All in all, there couldn’t be a better series of books to spend time on. (It rivals Harry for sure… I might even like Percy Jackson better…) Don’t miss out. Read these books. You won’t be sorry. And if you are… well… there are special places in the Underworld for you.

So sad to see it end.,

Rick Riordan’s final book in the Percy Jackson series does not disappoint. The Last Olympian is a tour de force of battles, intrigue, love and ???

Don’t worry, no spoilers here.

As he has done in his other books in the series, Mr. Riordan combines his knowledge of Greek mythology with a fine understanding of young people to create a book that will draw you in, hold your attention to the last and leave you begging for more.

Percy again battles the forces of the ancient Lord Kronos along with his friends from past adventures. For a time, enemies become allies; and, just like in any “mortal” family, everyone must work together to bring the story to its satisfying conclusion.

Boy-oneder’s favorite character is Tyson. Sonshine’s favorite is Mrs. O’Leary. As always, I am drawn to Annabeth. However, all of the characters are so well drawn as to seem real in the moment. Riordan’s writing makes them jump off the page straight into our imaginations. He made me laugh out loud. He made us cheer. And the best part is: There’s more to come!

Go buy this book. Buy lots of them and give them to every kid you know. That recommendation that says this is for ages 10 and up … phooey. Give them to everyone. Read them with your kids. Give them to libraries. Read them with other peoples’ kids. ENJOY!
