Evonovich at her worst,

I have loved Stephanie Plum for 15 years since her first book- One for the Money came out but I think that Ms. Evanovich has quit looking to make a good story and is in it just for how much she can make as her “between the numbers” books and this latest Stephanie installment have shown. Ms. E. must be tired of Stephanie and her antics. We have lost all the wonderful descriptive writing that have the reader laughing with full pictures in their head of what is going on whether it is when Stephanie was handcuffed naked to her shower and Ranger had to come let her loose or when she was running for her life down a street from a large rabbit that her Mother eventually runs over all the good descriptions are gone, stripped. It is a plain “Stephanie went here, she did this and the result was this” type of writing. BORING! And even sexy Ranger went from a 4 dimensional figure to one dimension. Ms. Evanovich if you are bored with Stephanie leave her be and start making quilts or playing cards at the Senior Center because obviously you can no longer write.
Sorely disappointed,

I enjoy the Stephanie Plum series and have tolerated the car explosions, Lula and the other ridiculous plot lines because these books are fun. Plain and simple, they are fun and have always been light reading that could make me laugh. Unfortunately, “Finger Lickin’ Fifteen” pushed the limits for this loyal reader. I lost count of the car explosions…and am I really to believe that Ranger wouldn’t mind two of his vehicles being blown up? For me, Lula played too much of a role; her character is absolutely ridiculous and stretches credulity to new levels. But Janet has spread her story lines pretty thin before so I could look past that were it not for using such foul language in this book. I am by no means a prude but she repeatedly used language that just didn’t fit in a Stephanie Plum book…I feel the need to have her revisit who her leading lady is because Stephanie took a departure from herself in this book.

“Can I distinguish between good and bad?” — 2 Samuel 19:35
Unless you like reading repeated references to a beheaded body, exposed male anatomy, the symptoms of indigestion, and performing sexual services for pay, you may find this book more disgusting than funny. The humorous sequences that aren’t raunchy fall back on the usual gags (burning things up, cars being wiped out, and inappropriate suitors).
The main story lines of Finger Lickin’ Fifteen involve Lula unexpectedly observing a murder and being hunted by the killers, Lula entering a cooking contest, Stephanie helping Ranger overcome a threat to his business, and Stephanie and Lula bringing in people who skipped their court dates. On the romantic front, not much happens. Stephanie is angry with Morelli, and she doesn’t find Ranger all that hard to ignore sexually.
Unless you like raunchy humor, you may find that you’ll be happier skipping this book and hoping that number sixteen will be more appealing.
This book just didn’t fit into the series. It seemed more like a writing exercise to see how far an author could “push” humor into regions where it doesn’t usually go.
Yuck!
